Meet S.P. S.P. is short for Sweet Pea and she is a beautiful 3 year old female black and white border collie. This little girl is such a sweet and gentle dog. She is very shy and needs someone that can just love her and gain her trust. Once she opens up, she has a sweet and loving personality. It is her foster home's belief that she will overcome this insecurity once she feels secure in a loving home. As typical with Border Collies, she gets scared with loud noises and will go and hide.
She is good with other dogs, big, small, male and female, but is the alfa for sure. However, S.P. would prefer to be the only dog and will thrive as she builds her confidence. It is important to keep her socialized with other dogs, so play dates at with other dogs at the dog park would be a good outlet for her. She is good with all people, and really likes to be with her humans.
S.P. is leash trained, she will crate, and her foster home is working on basic obedience. She does get car sick, so it is not recommeded to feed her before car trips. She can overcome this with work, but it will take time. When she gets excited she smiles, and when she warms up she talks to you. She is house broken and does let you know when she needs to go out. She is more on the mellow side for a border collie. This sweet girl is not destructive, she plays with toys and like to play ball.
The ideal home for S. P. is one with previous border collie experience who knows how to deal with her phobias with positive reinforcement training. S. P. is not well suited to the first time BC owner. Under the right tutlege, S. P. will blossom into an awesome dog.
