Callie is a spayed, 2 year old Border Collie that we would consider rehoming to the "right" home. We would not want her going to a shelter (we both volunteer at our local shelter and work with hard to place dogs...mostly pitties), but if we can find a home with responsible owners who understand Border Collies and would take as good of care of her as we do we would be willing to hand the leash over, so to speak.
Callie is black and white, approximately 48 pounds, athletic, healthy, and has no known medical issues. Her previous owner was deployed overseas, which is how we were able to foster her. Her positives are that she is housebroken, she walks great on a leash, she gets along great with our dogs (and other dogs IF she is introduced slowly and off-leash), she is ok with our cat, she loves car rides and hikes, and she does not tear stuff up in the house when we leave for work. She is crate trained, and even so we leave her in the house all day with doggie door access to the yard. She is UTD on all her vaccines, and we treat her monthly with Iverhart Max for parasite prevention and with Advantix for flea/tick prevention. She plays well at the dog park, even with a park full of dogs.
The negatives are that she can be fearful of strangers, and we need to educate folks who simply want to walk up and pet her (because she tilts her head and looks sooooo cute). She is fine with our extended family, and she does not try to herd kids (or other animals) at all. She is not too keen on unknown kids, however, and although she would not go after them she will back up and "air nip" if a kid gets too close too fast. She has never bitten any person or dog. Another negative is that although she would not purposefully harm our cat she will chase her and then try to paw at her to play...but our cat is 17 and in the early stages of kidney failure, so our cat would much rather not have that kind of playmate. We live in suburbia, with zillions of friendly kids and off leash dogs roaming our neighborhood, and although Callie is certainly manageable we just need to be wary of random folks coming up uninvited and reaching out for pets or of uninvited dogs that approach when Callie is on-leash. We introduced her slowly to our pack, then crated her at night (we still crate her at night...she runs right in and expects a treat...and we do the crate thing because it allows kitty cat to roam freely about the house without getting harassed). Ideally, if you are with or without kids, and you may or may not have a dog or dogs, and you love long walks and car rides, and are seeking a high "play" drive...Callie is the dog for you!
