COWBOY

 |
Cowboy is a handsome 2 year old tri-colored Border Collie. He is very energetic, extremely loving and well mannered. He gets along and plays well with all other dogs. He did well on his cat test but just wants to play with them and has too much energy for this to be unsupervised initially. He shows some work drive but has not been tested on stock as of yet. He loves to play ball and frisbee, and will bring toys back. He is working on "leave it" and waiting for the ball to be thrown. He has been started on basic agility and flyball, but shows more promise right now in flyball.
Cowboy walks well on the leash and rides well in the car. He loves meeting people and has been fine with all ages, however, he is still a mouthy teenager so he should probably not be placed in a family with young children unless they are Border Collie/herding dog savvy. He has no food aggressions and waits at his place while the other dogs are being fed in order. He has learned to sit until the food bowl is down and is respectful of the other dogs eating and will not approach their dishes.
Cowboy is housetrained and uses the dog door to go in and out of the yard. He is very good in the house and has had no destructive behaviors. He is curious about everything and will occasionally pull something off a shelf to examine it, and then when he finds it's not that interesting or is told it is not his he will simply leave it. For the most part he knows which toys are acceptable to play with. He has been bathed twice and is fine in the bath and tolerates the blow drier. He's had his nails clipped and teeth brushed with no problems.
Cowboy is very loving and definitely needs his humans. He will sit quietly at your feet or with his head in your lap if you are working on the computer. If you are busy or doing housework he will respectfully sit at a distance and wait until it's his time for attention, or play in the yard amusing himself with a soccer or basketball, but never wants to be far from his people. He will come up and sit on the couch or bed if asked and loves to be cuddled. He does become extremely despondent and depressed when penned so he is not a dog to be left along all day in a pen or crate. He sleeps in the house on a dog bed and on the bed if he is invited.
Cowboy is basically very quiet. He will bark once or twice to let you know he is on one side or other of a gate in the house, but respects even a 3 foot gate he could easily jump and will wait to be let through. He will occasionally bark at something outside the fence. If he gives more than 2 barks, is recalled and then goes out and barks again, whatever is bothering him should probably be investigated. He has excellent recall both to the whistle and his name.
Cowboy is neutered, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. He has been dewormed and is on flea control. Cowboy is being fostered in the San Luis Obsipo area.
