Dino
6/12/18 Update - Dino's foster home has made the following observations on him:
  • Dino is very distrustful of men. However, he is learning to trust his foster Dad a bit more now. The recommended home is one where there is a single woman who is either retired or works from home, as he prefers women to men.
  • Dino requires a patient person to work with him. He is scared of loud noises and movement.
  • Dino is a water baby. He loves the water and enjoys playing in a plastic kiddy pool.
  • Children terrify him. A home without children is required.
  • Dino can't be placed as an only dog. He enjoys the company of other dogs and it helps his confidence. Dino will require an adopter who is confident, and has time and patience.
  • His adopter need to be very dog savvy and know how to work with undersocialized dogs.
  • He is a great dog, is eager to please and he is trying to learn not to be afraid of his own shadow.
Meet Dino.  Dino is a reserved 1year old tri-colored male Border Collie Mix with a smooth coat with prick ears.  Our best guess is that he is mixed with Australian Cattle Dog.  Dino entered our program pretty much feral, not socialized, and he was weary of people.  He is now learning to trust and he is as sweet as can be.  Dino is looking for his special someone to boost his confidence with positive reinforcement training.

Dino is a submissive male and would be best placed with another dog.  He does enjoy being with other dogs and is well socialized with them.  Dino walks decently on a leash now, but is bothered by loud noises.  He needs obedience training and needs to learn his recall better.  He also takes a soft command since he is so sensitive.  He could use some confidence building through some positive reinforcement obedience training.   Dino is a typical male for this breed, as he is extremely affectionate and loyal--he wants to bond tightly with his human.  Dino can adapt to activity--it just depends on what you ask of him.  One minute he's out romping around, and then the next he settles right down next to you.  Dino is nervous, and will pace a bit until he settles down.  Because a lot of stimulus is hard on him, a quieter household without small children would be best suited for him.  He would be well suited for an individual that goes to dog parks or likes to exercise with a dog by your side.  Dino rides very well in the car and gets along well with other dogs.  Dino would make a really nice canine companion for the person who is willing to invest the time in him.

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
