Ebony is an energetic year oldfemale mix of some sort. She is black with the softest coat and fur. The shelter listed her as BC and Flat Coated Retriever, but our best guess is that she is Lab and Retreiver. In any case, Ebony is our BC wannabe. Ebony was advocated to BCIN by shelter personnel as a shelter favorite, even though she probably doesn't have an ounce of BC in her. The shelter kept hiding her so that she would not be euthanized, however a decision was made to bring Ebony into our program despite her obviously mixed and diverse heritage. Nonetheless, Ebony is still deserving of a loving home, and BCIN is committed to helping her find it.
Ebony is a dominant female. At this point, she would prefer to be placed as an only dog. It appears she was not socialized with other dogs and is reactive when meeting other dogs in person. She does not react to other dogs when walking, and she does not have leash aggression. She has attended adoption events and has tolerated being around other dogs without any issue. Ebony needs a committed person to manage and train her further with positive reinforcement and a structured / consistent schedule to build her confidence slowly and socialize her properly. BCIN does not believe in the old school, dominance, and "alpha" based training and Ebony will not thrive with this type of training.
Ebony is a very sweet and loving dog who would like to forge a close bond with her person. She does have some basic manners. She is crate trained, walks well on a leash, although a bit strong, and knows basic obedience. Ebony is a fantastic dog, all in all, she is just a diamond in the rough and needs her person to show that she can become an awesome dog.
