ELLIE
Ellie
Meet Ellie. Ellie is a female 1 year old smooth coated Border Collie. Ellie was picked up as a stray. She was deemed rescue only, as she was semi-feral and terrified. She had to be carried out of the shelter by personnel, as she did mot know how to walk on a leash. She recently has recovered from Demodex Mange that BCIN had treated. Without rescue intervention, Ellie was considered not suitable for adoption, and she had the misfortune of coming into the shelter around the July 4th holiday.

Look at her now. Ellie has blossomed in her foster home. Her foster dad says she prefers women to men, and just loves his mom. She can be a bit timid upon meeting her, but she will warm up. She is biddable and is treat motivated, so with some time she will learn to fully trust.

Ellie is a complete water baby and loves to play in the kiddy pool, with the hose, and enjoys swimming. Ellie loves other dogs and howls when she is separated from her foster sibling. She derives comfort and confidence from being around other dogs. Therefore, she can't be placed in a home where she is an only dog. She has not met a stranger, as gets along with all dogs she has met, and she has no issues with cats.

Her foster home is working on her house manners, as Ellie is almost fully potty trained. She does go the back door to let you know she needs to go outside, but forgets sometimes. Since Ellie is still very much a puppy, she is a chewer when she gets bored, so she needs to be kept busy which will keep her from being destructive.

Ellie likes to spend time in her crate with the door open, she feels safe in there and spends time in there playing with her chew toys. Ellie walks well on a leash, is getting better with car rides. Ellie enjoys running around at the park and chasing the other dogs and also likes to play fetch (she doesn't bring the ball back all the time but she is learning).

The type of home that is recommended for Ellie is one that continue with positive reinforcement training with her obedience. Ellie does well with structure, with clear and consistent direction. Ellie has come a long way in such a short time, and she will continue to blossom with time.

Ellie's adopters must be committed to work with the destruction and energy associated with raising a puppy, along with housebreaking accidents. As with all puppies, socialization and puppy obedience classes are a must. This will ensure that you will have an outgoing, socialized, well behaved, and well adjusted adult dog in your family.

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
