Gus is a stunning 3 year-old male black and white traditionally marked semi rough coat purebred Border Collie. Gus came to BCIN as an owner turn in. The last couple of years have a bit rough on him, as he lived outside in kenneled dog run. Typical to this breed, Gus became bored and became destructive in the yard, which is why he ended up in rescue. Since Gus has been in our program, he has had a chance to play with other Border Collies and just be a dog without a care in the world.
Gus has not shown any destructive behaviors while in foster care, however, he is quite the watch dog. He is very well socialized with other dogs, but is very bothered by cats and cannot be placed in home with them. Due to his prey drive, he should not be placed in home with other small animals, as well.
Gus is such a soft and sensitive boy, wanting nothing more than to please his human. He can be a bit timid upon first meeting him, but once you shower him with some affection, he just melts. He is very obedient and kennels up very nicely. Gus wants to forge a close bond with you. Because of his past life, he would be best suited in home with previous border collie experience who can build his confidence and develop his potential.
Gus has an off button, however, in true border collie form, he will come to life in an instant. His energy level is medium to medium high, and needs activity in his life. He rides well in car once he is in there, however, he is scared and needs help getting him in. Gus was never socialized outside the home, so he is a bit apprehensive with the stimulus and sounds around him. Border Collie aficionados take note: With the dedicated and right person, Gus will develop into a fabulous and all around border collie that will be forever loyal to you.
