Lilly was an 18-month-old purebred Border Collie who had to be euthanized only 10 hours after bailing her from the shelter. She had severe abcesses in her throat that began swelling immediately after her foster mom got her home. When, within hours, she began having serious seizures, she was taken to an ER vet. He felt that there were many things going on with her: severe infection, potential epilepsy as well as cancer. The ER vet felt that she did not have a good prognosis with all of this, and sadly he recommended euthanasia. Her owners dumped her off at the shelter because they no longer wanted to deal with the situation nor the finances involved in her care. This is very sad, as she should have been taken by her people to be euthanized without further suffering or stress. Despite the outcome and cost, BCIN came to her aid. We can say that she did not die alone and scared in a shelter, but with compassion and love during her last hours on earth. Rest in peace, dear Lilly, and we will see each other once again at the Rescuer's Rainbow Bridge.
