Nan is a 2 year old, Black & White smooth coated Border Collie. Listed as a yearling at the shelter, her teeth show she is a bit older and we are estimating two years of age. She is very traditionally marked, including a full collar. The smooth coats are gaining favor with adopters as grooming is a non issue. Nan weighed a mere 24.2 pounds the day of her spay. She is a tiny little thing! She could have some McNab or Kelpie in her background as this is quite small for a purebred BC.
Nan is getting along with all the fosters. Her favorite playmates are the 4-5 month old pups. This is no surprise as she certainly acts like a puppy herself with her boundless energy. She needs a crash course in obedience though. She is so happy and thrilled with her new lease on life that she does jump up. We are working on it, but her excitement level makes it difficult for her. Nan is not suited for the first time BC owner. She will need an experienced adopter that is consistent and patient to continue her training.
Nan is using a doggie door with no accidents. Cat testing is not available though her reaction to the small fosters indicates she might have a bit too much interest in small animals. She tried to herd them at first, but did respond well when verbally corrected to call off. We are recommending a home without cats due to this reaction. There are no children in the area for testing. Her first exposure will be at adoption appointments. We doubt there will be any problem as she seems to think all the humans she has met should be her best buddy. However her exuberance will probably be too much for children under 7 or 8.
Nan would excel at dog sports like agility. She is very fast. She did show interest in a ball though the competition around here at ball time is fierce. We would be willing to test her independently to determine her level of toy/ball drive if requested. Nan is looking for an experienced and active person or family to call her own.
Chazz is being fostered in Phelan.
