Oakley is a 14 year young traditionally marked border collie with a semi-rough coat! He's an extremely sweet boy who gets along with all dogs he's met and he absolutely loves people. He has not been tested around cats, pocket pets or livestock yet.
Oakley rides well in the car. He needs a ramp or to be lifted/assisted in and out, but he does well with stairs and navigating. He's great in the house, uses the dog door and is housetrained but he needs to be close to "the facilities" and occasionally will have a "senior accident"!
He is a little hard-of-hearing so it's recommended he be kept on a leash or long lead on all walks or outings for his safety. He will respond to louder noises like clapping and he responds well to hand signals.
Oakley loves a gentle game of ball. He will bring the ball back, lie down and push it with his nose. He does this not only with people but with dogs. He loves to go to the beach. He enjoys short walks on the beach, but he will need frequent stops for visiting (he's a popular guy on our dog beach but he does need those rest stops)!
Oakley is neutered, current on all vaccines and boosters and tested negative for heartworm and Lyme. He's been de-wormed and is on flea control. He was itchy/scratchy at first but since he's been on a grain free diet & treats (recommended continued), and he's better every day. He also takes senior supplements and they seem to be helping him (also recommended). He loves to be brushed and does not only not mind the blow dryer at all but seems to like it!

Please open your heart and home to adopting a senior. BCIN takes in more than a fair share of the senior BCs, as it is fact that adoption rates in the shelter are reduced significantly once a dog reaches 5 years of age. BCIN was Oakley's only hope of making it out of the shelter and we gladly welcomed him into our rescue program. Oakley will be adopted under our Senior Program. This means we reduce our adoption fee significantly so that he can find a loving home where he spend the rest of his golden years as a pampered pooch.
