PERDY
Perdy
“Perdy” is an 18-month-old, spayed female, pure-bred, short-haired Border Collie.  She is super smart and very sweet.  We rescued her from a back yard breeder this summer.  She was in poor health and very fearful.  We believe she was abused because of her fears.  She is especially fearful of my husband although she is very friendly with other men.  She has come a long way in our loving home!  While still cautious, especially of new situations, she shows very little of her former anxiety.  We had great hopes that our small ranch would be a good home for her, however she requires more mental stimulation than we can provide her.

Due to her boredom, she has resorted to stalking my chickens, goats and cats.  She responds very quickly to training and no longer chases the cats but cannot be trusted with chickens.  She used to run away daily but has been taught to stay home.  However, her fear of my husband sends her running if he is home and she is not kenneled or chained.

She is great with other dogs and kids.  However, she does get a little nervous around quick moving objects like small children.  She has been in our home for 5 months with our 4 small children so she is accustomed to them and quite gentle with them.

Perdy does require a special diet.  She was on basic kibble when she came to us which left her with flaky skin, terrible shedding, poor weight gain and very little energy.  She was put on a raw meat diet and began thriving immediately.  Her skin no longer flakes, she barely sheds, her energy level is amazing and she is putting on weight.  If a raw diet is a stumbling block, there are grain free kibbles that could be tried.  However, a simple raw meat diet is actually less expensive than the premium kibbles!  I am happy to assist in learning about raw feeding if this helps!

Perdy would make a great ranch dog as she has herding experience.  She would also be a fabulous agility competitor.  I’ve created a slide show of her playing fetch to illustrate her amazing spirit as well as her acrobatics! http://www.allnaturalmamas.com/perdy/index.htm

Perdy loves to be with the kids and me.  She is house trained and does great inside, stays on her pillow and doesn't wander or chew.  She doesn't do well in my house with the noise of the kids, though.  Our neighbors have watched her for us and report that she's excellent in the house.  She is such a people dog, wanting so badly to please.  She is very loyal and extremely smart!  Her favorite is to play fetch and wrestle with our Labrador.  She loves other dogs and is very submissive so all dogs adore her right back.  She is the favorite in our neighborhood.  If you can’t tell, I love her to pieces.  This is why I must find her a better home.  It’s not fair for her to be here with us, kenneled much of the time.  A home where someone could work her in some mentally stimulating capacity would make her so happy and kenneling would not be necessary.
