RAY
Ray
Update as of August 2016: These 2 brothers, Ray and Stevie, were both adopted together from BCIN approximately 3 years ago.  Since that time, their adopter moved to Texas and dumped them off as strays to the high kill McKinney, Texas shelter.  Obviously, the guy wasn't too smart, as they were both microchipped with his information and BCIN's.  One can only imagine the surprise of our founder when she got the 6 AM phone call from shelter personnel.  Not one to be detoured, she sprang right into action.

BCIN commits to our dogs for life and will always take our dogs back.  The very reason why we don't adopt out of state is so that we can provide a safety net for our dogs should they ever need to come back to rescue.  However, we can't prevent when someone's lifestyle changes, and they move out of state.

Through the collaborative efforts of animal lovers in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, both the boys were transported back to safety to BCIN in late June.  We thank Joan Nickum, who arranged this complicated volunteer transport manifest, and to Susan Ehman who went above and beyond to bail them from the shelter, vetted and fostered them while transport was coordinated.  It really does take a community to rescue dogs and when the call came out, we were overwhelmed that people we didn't even know stepped up to help Ray and Stevie.

Ray is now approximately 5 years old and he is such a different dog from 3 years ago.  He is more outgoing than his brother, and tends to lead Stevie.  He has a really sweet personality and has some manners, when he is not with his brother, Stevie.  They really should be called Twiddledee and Twiddledum.  The two of them together are like out of control puppies and they should be separated.  However, they can be adopted together, as long as their person can provide separate obedience instruction to them and provides a strict regimen for them.  Ray is gregarious and has a happy go lucky personality, but is a ringleader and is silly, cunning, and a bit obnoxious when he is with is brother, Stevie.  He is well socialized with other dogs and enjoys their company.  He is leash trained, knows his basic obedience, housebroken, and we know that he rides quite well in the car after the long trip back to California.

These dogs deserve a good home after what they have been through. We originally rescued them from a hoarding situation up in the high desert. They were pretty much feral when they came into our rescue program. Please consider adopting Ray or Stevie.

Original bio:

Ray is a beautiful 2 year-old male Border Collie/Blue Heeler blend.  He and his brother, Stevie, came to us from their owner, who could not keep them anymore.  When we rescued them they were pretty much feral and were very afraid of everyone.  They have come a long way and have come to trust humans and are very sweet and loving.

Ray is the more outgoing boy and loves to run and play with the other fosters.  He will chase after a ball and play with other toys, too.  Ray has learned to go in and out of a dog door and is getting used to a leash.  He is getting used to being inside, however, he will need more training to be a house dog.  Both boys do enjoy being outside during the day.

Ray is very good with other people and other dogs but still needs to be assured that you are going to be good to him.  He also needs a lot of TLC and patience and he will be a wonderful companion.  Ray can be a little nervous riding in a vehicle but with a few short rides, he will learn to love it.  He will need a little time adjusting to a new home so he will need someone with the time to help him adjust and gain his trust.  He is a very sweet and loving boy once he trusts you..

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
