Meet Rex. Rex is a 9 month old male Border Collie. Rex was recently rescued from Shanghai, China.
Los Santos Rescue in Shanghai contacted BCIN and asked if we would take him in. Arrangements were made to fly him to LAX, where our founder, Suzanne, picked him up on June 10th. Another BC in our program, Duo Mi, was also rescued and flown to the US, along with Rex, 3 Golden Retreivers, and a Beagle. The foster families posed for a photo with the dogs in their crates at the airport in Shanghai.
Dogs have little or no chance of being adopted after they are rescued. After they grow up and are no longer a cute puppy, many are simply abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves. Many are slated for the meat trade if they end up in a shelter. It is the dedicated efforts of individuals who save as many dogs as they can from such a cruel and barbaric fate.
Rex is a bit of a wild child, as he is still a puppy with lots of energy. He has some basic manners, but he definately needs someone to tow the line with him and be firm, yet gentle, with his obedience. Rex obviously travels well and is crate trained. He is housebroken. Rex can be quite vocal and vies for your attention, and he is a bit spoiled that way. He is very sweet and engaging. Rex would thrive with another energetic dog in the household, as he is well socialized with other dogs.
Please do not apply for Rex because he is handsome. BCIN will only consider applicants who are committed to working with him. Rex would not make a good choice for someone who doesn't have previous border collie experience. Rex requires an active home that is willing to invest the time into Rex to make him a model canine citizen. Rex is biddable and wants to please you, but he is more interested in playing with the other dogs.
Rex was provided proper veterinarian care while in Shanghai. In order for him to be eligible for international travel, he required an executed International Health Certificate.
Rex's adopters must be committed to work with the destruction and energy associated with raising a puppy, along with housebreaking accidents. As with all puppies, socialization and puppy obedience classes are a must. This will ensure that you will have an outgoing, socialized, well behaved, and well adjusted adult dog in your family.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
