Other Ways To Help
SHELTERS
- Be a shelter watcher and contact us if you see BC's in need of rescue
- Take *good* photos of dogs at shelters to help us identify breed
- Use your digital video camera to film a rescue dog in action at a shelter or event
LABOR
- Volunteer to be a Border Collies In Need rescuer in your area
- Conduct a home visit or accompany a rescue person on the home visit
- Walk a Border Collie at events
- Get some friends together to build/repair pens for a foster home
- Volunteer to help with foster yard clean-up
- Help enter Border Collie and adopter information into our database
- Make a few phone calls
- Drive a dog to and from vet appointments
PROMOTE
- Link to us on your website
- Provide local vet clinics with BCIN contact information
- Spread the word about the work we do
EDUCATE
- Educate local shelter staff about how to identify a Border Collie and take good photos
- Educate people on responsible pet ownership
- Talk to all your friends and co-workers about adopting and fostering rescue dogs
- Encourage your local pet store to sponsor rescue groups and local shelters to promote adoption of animals rather than selling puppies or kittens
- Hold a grooming seminar
HELP FINANCIALLY
- Donate directly to Border Collies In Need
- Help organize and run fundraising events
- Pay for spay/neuter or vaccinations services
- Have a yard sale and donate the money to Border Collies In Need
- Pay for the dog to be groomed or take the dog to a *Do It Yourself* Grooming Place
- Pay for an ad in your local/metropolitan paper to help place rescue dogs
- Donate a coupon for a free car wash or gas or inside cleaning of a vehicle
- Pay the cost of taking a dog to obedience class
- Solicit donations for Border Collies In Need from local businesses
- Donate an AVID microchip for a rescued dog
- Interview vets to encourage them to offer discounts to rescues
- Clip and send coupons for dog food or treats
- Find promotions offering a free ID tag - inscribe it with BCIN contact info for our rescues
- Bake some homemade doggie biscuits
- If you are a breeder, donate a small percentage of the each sale to BCIN rescue
- Buy two of those really must-have dog items and donate one to BCIN
- Loan your carpet steam cleaner to a foster home
- Pay for a house-cleaning service to do the spring cleaning for someone who fosters dogs all the time
- Pay for BCIN business cards and banners
- Make a bequest in your will to BCIN
ARTISTIC
- Lend your artistic talents to BCIN for newsletters, fundraising ideas, t-shirt designs
- Write an article for our web site
- Write an article on training or dog-sport
- Write a column for your local newspaper or club newsletter on the benefits of rescue
- Make a BCIN sign for display at your public library
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
- Speak up if you see an animal being abused or neglected
- Spay and neuter your animals
- Microchip your animals so if they ever come into rescue, you can be contacted
- Provide for your animals in your will so they won't end up in rescue
SHOW SUPPORT
- Provide a shoulder to cry on when the rescue person is overwhelmed
- Thank a rescuer for all that they do
