Gwyn is a female 20 month-old purebred smooth coated Border Collie. She came to our rescue program as an urgent plea from a high kill shelter in Bakersfield. Her right hind leg has a badly healed fracture. BCIN felt that she might be a candidate for orthopedic surgery to correct it, however, our veterinarian has determined that surgery could worsen her condition as her fracture is currently stabilized. Gwyn would have been a fantastic agility, herding, or disc dog….she is so fast and can turn on a dime even with her disability. She is a solid athlete who is permanently sidelined because of this injury. Gwyn needs a lower impact home, but at the same time she needs the mental stimulation that the BCs so crave. She is a very affectionate dog, although she can be a bit timid upon first meeting you. Gwyn is a dominant female, and can be choosy which female dogs she likes, so opposite gender placement is recommended. She has quite a prey drive, so a home without felines or other small animals is a must. Gwyn is crate trained and walks on a leash. She also knows her basic obedience commands.
