KATO
Kato
Upon first seeing Kato's photos, we were awed by his mime - jester-like markings on his face and his one floppy ear.  Kato is still a rambunctious puppy at 10 -11 months of age.  He is a tri-colored patterned white border collie mix...we just can't seem to put our finger on what he is mixed with.

Kato was advocated to us from animal control on one of the military bases.  Kato has had several homes in his short life, as his previous families did not understand herding breeds and their need to be challenged and exercised.  Kato was also gripping the kids, and that was mistaken for aggression.  Kato has a high energy level and and would do best in a very active lifestyle home which thrives on activity: a tired border collie is a happy border collie and will less likely be destructive.

Kato knows his basic obedience, however, he is quite strong on the leash and pulls very hard.  He will need a strong handler and one who will be consistent with his discipline, as he is a bit strong willed.  Underneath, he is very affectionate, and wants to please but he will push your buttons.  He does fine with female dogs, but he can be reactive with other male dogs.  He appears to be a dominant male, so therefore, opposite gender placement is strongly recommended.

Due to Kato's past experience with small children, it is recommended that he be adopted into a home with children over the age of 12 years.  His shelter notes said that he likes cats, but we don't have first hand knowledge or a way to evaluate this.  If you are a dog savvy person who would like a bit of a challenge, then Kato is your dog.  Kato will blossom out to be a great dog with the right person who can channel his energy with positive reinforcement.
