Welcome!
RILEY
Riley
Meet Riley. Riley is a handsome 2-year-old male, smooth coat, black and white, Border Collie. Riley was an owner surrender to the shelter. The shelter contacted BCIN because Riley was not going to be deemed adoptable from the shelter due to food aggression issues. The shelter behaviorist worked with him and there was improvement. BCIN was Riley's hope of making it out of the shelter. His previous owner had him from the time he was 5 months old and she stated that when she adopted him from the shelter, he resourced guarded his food. She fed him in a crate and there was no other issue. Riley’s foster home has been working with Riley on this behavior. He can be hand fed with no problem, and this is recommended with a dog that has food aggression. Continued training in this area would be beneficial. As a result, Riley will not be adopted to a home where there are small children present in the environment.

Now, here are Riley's wonderful traits:

Riley epitomizes all of the wonderful traits that BC aficionados love about this breed. He is a lean and mean athletic machine who is handsome, smart, and loyal.

Riley is ever so affectionate and loves to have his tummy rubbed. He is well socialized and he is quite engaging with people that he meets. BCIN was told that Riley was loved in his previous home. This is very apparent as he has nice house manners and has been knows his obedience commands of sit, down, shake with both paws, sit pretty and roll over. He also do these commands from a distance. Riley is housebroken and loves to play outside in the yard and can keep himself busy with his toys. He is alsp a water baby and loves to play in the water with the garden hose. Riley enjoys a good game of fetch.

Riley is we well socialized with other dogs and loves playing with all the foster dogs, but gets a little too rambunctious with little dogs. He is very weary of cats, so a house without small dogs and cats is required.

If you are an active home that can provide Riley with daily consistent exercise and understand the requirements of providing mental stimulation, then Riley is a perfect candidate for you. Riley needs a job to do, as he is on the go. Riley would be most unhappy as a backyard dog watching the world go by. Riley has the potential for canine dog sports such as herding, agility, Rally O, etc., or he would excel in advanced obedience and/or trick training. This is a dog that is very biddable and wants to please you. HiIs potential is endless.

As with all Border Collies it is important to continue socialization training. This will help Riley build his confidence.. Riley will make a wonderful companion for the person who has extensive experience and understands Border Collies, quirks and all.

If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please fill out an adoption application.  We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled.  The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
