Strawberry is a stunning 5-6 year old female classically marked red and white purebred border collie with a luxurious rough coat. Strawberry came to BCIN as an owner relinquishment as her family is moving overseas. Her owner noted that Strawberry barked constantly at her husband, and they sought help to change the behavior to no avail. In her current foster home, Strawberry has not exhibited any of this type of behavior, and seems perfectly content being with either my husband or myself. Although Strawberry gets along very well in foster home with the other dogs, she truly is happiest when she is with her person. It is important to keep a dog like Strawberry well socialized, so that she does not become protective of her person. This apparently happened with her previous owner. The first couple of days that Strawberry was in her foster home, she was a bit anxious. She has now settled into the daily routine and seems to thrive on consistency. As Strawberry is a red head, she can be strong willed, so it is very important that Strawberry has a human alpha to keep her in check. Strawberry requires an adopter who is BC savvy, and has had previous BC experience with an alpha female. Since she knows she is pretty, she can be quite coy and manipulative with her looks. If you are not consistent with your discipline, she will be alpha and take over your household. She doesn't want to, but she will, if you let her.
Strawberry is perfect in every other sense. She is very obedient, affectionate, knows her commands, but she still can be a bit strong on the leash. She has beautiful house manners and is housebroken. Her favorite activities are to play, chase, catch and go for walks. She is also quite a water baby, and likes playing with the garden hose when you are trying to water. Careful watering schedules should be adhered to when Strawberry in not present in the yard, as she will bite at the sprinklers and may tear them out. If you fully understand BC temperament and behavior, then Strawberry is a pretty easy going dog. She is extremely affectionate, and she wants nothing more than to be your canine BFF. |
