| FIONA | |
 |
Fiona is a 10 -11 months old female Border Collie. She is black and white traditionally marked with a semi rough coat. Fiona was an owner surrender to the shelter because her owners did not know how to channel and train a Border Collie pup, as they knew nothing about the breed before they purchased her. It did not take long for Fiona to outsmart her people and take over the household. It did not help that she was just a backyard dog that became highly destructive.
Fiona is a typical border collie who needs a job to do. She is very smart, loyal and athletic. She has higher energy who thrives on activity - a casual walk would be just a warm up for her. She is going to need a job to do with physical activity and mental stimulation, so that she does not get bored and become destructive as she was in her previous home.
We have been working on her socialization skills with other dogs. She is not a shrinking violet, as she is an alpha female, therefore opposite gender placement is recommended. Fiona is crate trained and is house trained. She walks decently on a leash and enjoys going for walks. Fiona does ok with dog savvy cats, however, with the herding breeds, she should not be left unattended with them.
Fiona is an affectionate dog and enjoys human interaction. She does have an off button and she will come and snuggle close to you on the couch. Fiona is best suited for an active home who has had previous BC experience. Fiona needs further training and she will continue to thrive as she is challenged. Please do not apply for Fiona unless you have the right stuff to take her to the next level and make her the awesome dog we know she can become.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please go on line and fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
