Welcome!
JOHNNY
Johnny
Johnny is a gorgeous 4-year-old tri-colored purebred semi-rough coat Border Collie who is a true Border Collie in every sense of the word.  He has the looks, the intelligence, the curiosity, the talent, the focus, the drive, the dedication, the willingness to learn.

He follows voice commands very well and so wants to please his humans -- his master and strangers alike.  He loves to play fetch with the tennis ball (he pushes it back to you with his nose – but be forewarned, playing ball is very important to his daily existence and he will remind you (sometimes when you're trying to fall asleep)) if you try to skip it. He doesn't bother you for very long – it's actually quite endearing and he settles down quickly after you remind him it's time to "go to sleep".  He loves to catch Frisbees and investigate all around the back yard – all while being completely quiet.  We think he might be a little ADD, but in a good way – this dog is a hoot to have around and total best material.  He has pure enthusiasm for life and people.  Johnny is a very good boy who constantly makes you laugh – partly due to the fact that he performs all his antics without uttering a sound.  Every once in awhile he might bark to remind you to "hurry up", but it's not a common occurrence.  He's also pretty good at self-entertaining.  For example, while I work on the computer, he will play this game wherein he drops the ball in my lap (say from my right), only to have it fall off my lap to the floor on my left.  He then quietly moves around the back of my chair, picks the ball up, gives it a couple of chews and then drops it back again in my lap, only to have it fall off on the other side – at which time, he goes back around and starts the process again.  It's pretty cool because he doesn't even care if you don't participate - he can keep the ball going all by himself for quite a while before he gets bored and expects you to change it up a little bit.  When that time comes, he's still a very good boy and is not annoying while he gently reminds you that you're the one who wanted to adopt a Border Collie, not the other way around.

Johnny absolutely loves people and is a crowd favorite when company comes over.  He does have a strong prey instinct, so should not be around toddlers as he thinks they are little chickens in Gap clothing.  Small children that move quickly bother him, but he is excellent with children over approximately 8 years old, and children go nuts over him.  He is very loving, a joy to snuggle with, a very good dog who is 100% potty trained.  He is extremely loyal and bonds very quickly and tightly within minutes.  When you get home from work at night, he puts on quite the welcome show for you and makes you feel like you're the best thing since sliced dog bones.  He loves to give you his paw, but is not annoying and doesn't do it constantly.  Johnny loves to have his belly scratched and rubbed and will lie next to you watching TV for hours.  He is not destructive at all and has not chewed on one inappropriate thing while in his foster home.  He is very agile and athletic.  When he first arrived in his foster home, he would sometimes jump up on his humans, but was quickly cured of this habit.

Johnny was an owner surrender at the shelter – sadly his former owner suffered from a disability and was no longer able to care for him.  Unfortunately the shelter that Johnny came from didn't know much about his background, whether due to a less-than-adequate interview process with the owner or their lack of thoroughness.  Who knows? Regardless, we learned that, while in the shelter, Johnny showed very well – no barking at other dogs at all and great with people.  So we bail him and bring him home.  After a short time in foster care, it became apparent that he had rarely – if ever - seen a moving car in his entire four years of life (although he rode home in the car just fine).  While on his quarantine walks, he was fine with the cars, unless they were on "his side of the street" and moved a little faster than he was used to.  He didn't bark at those cars – but he had no idea what they were and why they were swooshing by him so fast – it was more of a "what on earth is that?" reaction (he was not frightened at all – just quite confused).  These cars were not going that fast – we walk in a quiet neighborhood - but he didn't know what the heck they were!  Now, after being in his foster home for a few months, he is much better with cars – now only taking pause at the occasional very loud or fast moving cars (while on his walks).  Ironically, he rides incredibly well and quietly in the car – and is the best co-pilot ever – he LOVES to go for car rides.

After Johnny finished quarantine, we also made another discovery about his very sheltered past.  We pretty much discovered that, before his time in the shelter, he had never really been exposed to dogs.  While he has much curiosity about other dogs (some of it good, some of it bad), we have determined that he needs to be an only dog as he is just not good with most other dogs.  So, while it saddens us that Johnny cannot have any canine brothers or sisters or become a dog park dog, we have faith that someone out there will open up their heart and home to him and, in return, find themselves an incredible new best friend named Johnny.

Johnny is being fostered in the South Bay area.
