MAXWELL
Maxwell
Maxwell "Max" is male Border Collie and about 2 years old.  Such a handsome fellow.  Folks, they don't come much better looking than this classically marked black and white semi rough coated with prick ears.  Max comes to BCIN via a high kill shelter in Texas.  No other rescue could take him so BCIN was contacted to see if we had room in our program.  Max was taken to the vet where he tested positive for heartworm.  BCIN paid for his treatment and he was fostered by a wonderful gal by the name of Melinda until he was cleared for transport.  Max is currently on HW preventative treatment and should remain on it for a minimum of 6 months from the time he completed treatment.  BCIN will provide the balance of the medications as part of his adoption.  He epitomizes what people like about this breed: athletic, smart, loyal, and beautiful.  Max is as smart a whip and just wants to be with his people and please them.

Max is your typical Border Collie that has been unfortunately neglected and left in a back yard.  Max was extremely afraid of most people and very head shy when Melinda first met him.  He was so frightened, that he had to drag a leash around for several days so she could catch him and put him in his crate.  Melinda does not think he had ever been in a house as he had never been taught any house manners or he was housebroken.  Max learned very quickly what "house" meant and if directed goes straight in.  She taught him some manners and he has not lifted his leg in a very long time and no longer counter surfs.  Melinda said he is not afraid to come in the house through the door anymore.  He responds well to the tone of your voice and body language, as long as a person knows how to read dogs.  He wants to know the rules of the house, and seems to thrive on structure.  He is eager to please.

Max can be an early riser looking for action.  He does have a bad habit of wanting out right around 5 am, and he starts barking to get you up, especially if he is not properly exercised.  If he is kept busy during the day and gets the appropriate amount of exercise or playtime, he often would sleep through the night.

Max is socialized with other dogs, likes his crate, and now has good house manners.  He can be a bit shy upon first meeting you, but warms up quickly.  With that said, he may be too nervous around small children, so we are recommending no kids under 8 years old.  He is quite the mama's boy and loves to play with the other BCIN fosters, especially Ren and Chili.  Melinda noticed he appeared to be scared of her daughter's cats, however, all her dogs do chase the feral barn cat, and Max was participatory.

Max needs at least a medium experienced BC owner who is active and can offer him mental stimulation with a job to do.  If bored, Max has the potential (like any bored BC) to be destructive.  Max is not a BC that would not be happy stuck in a backyard all day, as he really does need someone to keep his mind and body busy.  He wants to forge a close bond with you.
